CCBOE LEADERS ATTEND EVENT TO IMPROVE SCHOOL SAFETY

Principals and Assistant Principals in Cullman County Schools participated Tuesday in a full-day training event with Phil Chalmers, who speaks all over the country about school safety. Sheriff Matt Gentry invited Chalmers to speak, and partnered with Cullman County Schools with the goal of improving staff and student safety.

“In wake of everything that happened in Uvalde, Texas this summer… it really weighed on my heart on what we could do at the sheriff’s office in conjunction with our community leaders to protect our children,” said Matt Gentry, Cullman County Sheriff.

“We really value our partnership with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office,” said Dr. Shane Barnette, Cullman County School Superintendent. “Law enforcement, like our educators, are valued members of our community who go above and beyond to do what’s right every day. School safety is a top priority for Cullman County Schools, and we are going to do everything we can to keep our schools safe.”

Dr. Barnette and Sheriff Gentry, along with other school leaders and school resource officers recently completed a walk-through of every Cullman County school campus, looking for areas that could benefit from safety upgrades.
