Cullman Regional officially opens new ER expansion
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held today for Cullman Regional’s newly expanded Emergency Department. The expansion project has increased the capacity of the ER by 80 percent and allowed the hospital to renovate or newly construct all ER patient care areas.
“For patients and their families there can be so much anxiety when coming to the ER,” said Cullman Regional Chief Nursing Officer Charna Brown. “We want to do everything we can to make the patient experience better and this new facility helps us achieve that goal.”
The $9.5 million dollar expansion features 17 new treatment rooms, three new trauma rooms, a dedicated behavioral health patient care area and a larger, more modern waiting area. With annual patient visits increasing, the hospital’s ER has been operating slightly over capacity for the last several years.
Continued population growth in north and central Alabama led hospital leadership to take steps to stay ahead of the growth.
“It’s vital that our hospital invest in facilities, talent and technology that will provide the healthcare our community needs now and in the future,” said Cullman Regional CEO James Clements.
The hospital has another expansion project underway. A four-story tower addition, scheduled to be completed next year, will enable the hospital to double the size of its critical care unit and add more beds to its medical surgical unit. The hospital partnered with Doster Construction and TRO Jung Brannen Architects on both the ED expansion and the four-story tower addition.
