The Sheriff’s Office has been around since 1818 and has seen a lot over the years… like the building of I-65. Attorney John Eric Burnum recently came across these 35mm Slides taken by his father Charles Gwin Burnum. They show the building of the I-65 Bridge across the Tennessee River. — [November 1970]
The bridge construction started in 1969 and was completed in 1973. Prior to completion, Hwy 31 through Decatur was the primary crossing on the Tennessee River.(If you look closely you may see one lane of the bridge closed for inspection even back then )
